Here are some artists and projects that are on my mind as I close out the year. Each project a break from my reality, room for contemplation, or room for praise. It’s not all-inclusive. Some albums aren’t even from 2022 but it’s all good. Thanks for being here with me.

These 25 albums have incredible singles that carry the rest of the LP, well-produced works, and finally some albums where it would be a sin to even think about skipping a track. I noticed that my favorite albums featured some of my already favorite artists trying out new things with their sounds that fit perfectly, as if they had always done that before. Here are my favorite albums of 2022.

Music has been pretty inconsistent for me this year. I went through a phase where I couldn’t listen to anything without it all feeling like too much. During that time, I was given some insightful words - that music is always there for you, and it will find you when your headspace is better. Those words allowed me to take my break without guilt, and surely enough when I was ready, the music was still there.

This pandemic still isn’t over, and neither are the delayed or renewed projects of so many from it. Some artists took to the Folklore-an route of producing natural-sounding tracks with introspective lyrics. Some artists shouted out their strength with confident celebrations. I appreciate the unique ways these albums capture the changes around them through their words and music. People change, our environment changes, our minds change. In these 25 albums, these artists show their mastery at helping us make sense of the stops and flows of our lives. These are my favorite albums of 2021.

2020 has been an incredibly tough year. While it put a halt on many aspects of everyday life that brought balance and joy, at least one thing remained and that’s been music.
Despite this, my relationship with music has changed so much this year. Typically, I see music as a soundtrack for different periods in my life. With every year or memory, I can almost always hear a song or two playing in the background.

There were few times when one could just get up and dance freely without seeing another somber headline. Yet, there was comfort in all these artists reflecting on the same feelings I experienced: loneliness, rejection, disappointment. Some chose to stick to these feelings, while others crafted fictional escapes. All of them wrote songs I’ll play for a long time. These albums are the best albums of 2020.
